The worst disaster in college sports history
occurred on November 14, 1970 at Kenova, WV when a plane carrying the Marshall
University football team, coaches, staff, fans, and supporters crashed near
Tri-State Airport.
The following year, after the university nearly
dismissed the football program the Young Thundering Herd started with a few
players that didn't make the trip and a lot of walk-ons. Today Marshall University
has a nationally ranked football program. If Marshall never won another game
we should all be thankful.
In Huntington, WV...the twelveth man is not
the fans...

A bronze statue now resides on the side of Marshall Stadium.

Thanks to the efforts of the men shown at the
left and many many others, we can now say Go Herd every fall. We should all
consider it a great priviledge to watch our Thundering Herd play football
on Saturday.
